Crusader Community Health received a first year grant of $104,701, from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL). The grant is made possible through the Dr. Louis and Violet Rubin Fund to support a School Based Health Center (SBHC) at Auburn High School. The program is in partnership with Rockford Public Schools (RPS), Rosecrance and Primary Eye Care. Crusader Community Health plans to open the SBHC in August 2014. It will provide medical, dental, behavioral and optical services to the more than 3,000 students attending schools in the neighborhood.

This gift will be used to support the cost of equipping the medical and dental exam rooms of the School Based Health Center (SBHC) at the new Auburn High School field house. It will support the salary of a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. The grant allows for consideration of a second year funding to support the project.

“The SBHC project is a collaboration of many dedicated area service providers who are committed to prevent or minimize health problems so each child is given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. It is a unique tool in the fight to prevent poor outcomes in both health and education, especially among vulnerable populations.” noted Gordon Eggers, President and CEO, Crusader Community Health.

The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois is the area’s largest provider of grants and scholarships. Celebrating 60 years of philanthropy, the Foundation’s mission is to attract, grow, and preserve an endowment for the needs of Northern Illinois.
